The Only Guide You Need for Getting Good Luck and Good Times at Singapore’s Fountain of Wealth

Ask any of my friends and they’ll tell you that I’m notoriously not a very superstitious person. I think most charms, trinkets, and talismans are really only made to be sold to gullible customers and I would never recommend buying any of these to readers.

However, there’s one place in Singapore that I believe is the exception. And the best thing about it? It’s free!

Enter Singapore’s Fountain of Wealth. A friend once told me all about a ritual that supposedly grants prosperity to those who do it next to the fountain.

I was very surprised to hear about this, as I’ve known about the fountain for a while but have never really made the trip to visit it. All I know about it is it gained a ton of popularity after the Guinness World Records crowned it as the world’s largest fountain in 1998.

One day, I thought I could use a bit of a luck boost and give the ritual a try.

Lucky for you because I’ve decided to share some of my good fortune today. I’ve listed down everything you need to know and all the things you can do to make the most out of a visit to Singapore’s Fountain of Wealth.

Where is The Fountain of Wealth?

The Fountain of Wealth can be found at 3 Temasek Boulevard, Singapore. It’s located within Suntec City, popularly known as one of Singapore’s largest retail centers.

This area is within the Marina Centre, which is part of Singapore’s Downtown Core.

How to Get to the Fountain of Wealth

Via MRT: There are three train stations near Suntec City. If you take the train and arrive at either Esplanade Station or Promenade Station, Suntec City should be around a 5-minute walk away.

Best Time to Go to the Fountain of Wealth

The best time to go to the Fountain of Wealth is on weekdays at around 6:00 pm. This is the last available time slot if you want to do the good luck ritual, and you won’t have to wait too long to witness the first light show of the night.

This way, you get to avoid the busy weekend crowd and see the fountain in its most vibrant state.

However, if you’d prefer to drop by earlier, the fountain can be visited anytime between 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM.

The good luck ritual (called the Touch Water session) can be done during these specific time slots:

  • 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

What to Do in The Fountain of Wealth

If you’re able to look down at the fountain from any of the nearby establishments, you will notice that Suntec City was designed to mimic the appearance of a hand. The Fountain of Wealth is supposed to act as its palm.

This is the main reason why many believe the fountain to be lucky. This arrangement, along with the motion of the water, follows Feng Shui teachings. Its cascade down into the ‘palm’ of Suntec City signifies the retention of wealth.

On the other hand, the other most noticeable thing about the fountain is the large bronze ring where all the water comes from. It’s said to be modeled after the Hindu Mandala, which symbolizes unity among all beliefs and ethnicities.

This spiritual combination is believed to be the source of positive ‘qi’ emanating from the fountain. This energy is why many visitors believe that doing a certain ritual can boost your luck.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of your visit would be performing the Good Luck Ritual. The practice actually involves a smaller water feature within the bronze ring.

The water jets are turned off several times a day and that’s when visitors have the opportunity to approach the smaller water fountain.

Once you’re there, the first step would be to extend your right hand and touch the water. Then, think of your wish instead of saying it out loud, so as to keep your wish a secret and not disturb other fountain visitors.

Once that’s done, walk around the fountain three times. If you know Feng Shui, you’d know that 3 is a mystical number believed to attract good energy.

Likewise, be warned that you should only have positive intentions when visiting the fountain for your wish to come true. If your motivations are pure, the Fountain of Wealth is said to grant you success and prosperity.

The Fountain of Wealth isn’t just any fountain though, it also comes with a world-class show.

Hands down, the best time of day to visit The Fountain of Wealth is once the sun has set. When it’s dark, the fountain combines water, lights, lasers, and music to create a spectacular display.

It’s so entertaining that many visitors end up staying for around an hour just to watch. No need to worry about where to sit though, as the fountain is so large that the show can be seen from many angles.

The laser show happens every night at 8 pm, 8:30 pm, and 9 pm.

The Fountain of Wealth is clearly all about interactivity too. Apart from the Touch Water sessions, you can also make the light show all about you.

You have the choice to dedicate a song or a laser message during the show to commemorate your visit. Just like the fountain itself, there’s no fee for this special offering.

Simply find the DJ booth where someone will be manning the stall and ask for your song or leave your special message.

Messages can only be sent between 8 pm to 9 pm on weekends, as well as on the nights of Public Holidays.

Song dedications are accepted from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and between 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Fridays to Sundays and Public Holidays.

In case you end up arriving too early, Suntec City has you covered. With the retail center being one of the most impressive in Singapore, there’s no shortage of shops and entertainment options to choose from to pass the time.

If you’re prone to shopping sprees, Suntec City might be your biggest temptation with around 360 stores to choose from. You can easily spend the whole day just going around the mall.

There are also other experiences like museums and tours nearby so you can further explore Singapore. In fact, Suntec City is home to Singapore Duck Tours which provide amphibious vehicles that work on both land and sea.

If you prefer to unwind, there are over a hundred restaurants you can get a bite from, with some establishments overlooking the Fountain of Wealth so you can eat while enjoying the view.
