Right in the middle of the city, CHIJMES somehow feels worlds apart from the usual fast-paced streets of Singapore.
The white colonial-style buildings, stained glass windows, and open courtyards give it a laid-back charm that makes you want to slow down and take it all in.
I originally came for a quick coffee, but between the soft glow of fairy lights, the hum of live music, and inviting patio spaces, I found myself lingering for hours. It works for almost everything—brunch with friends or a quiet solo meal.

Where is CHIJMES?
CHIJMES Singapore is in the Downtown Core, located along Victoria Street.
It’s bordered by the Raffles City shopping complex to the south, the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd to the north, Bras Basah Road to the west, and the South Beach development to the east.
How to Get to CHIJMES
By Bus: You can take Bus 13, 61, 67, 107, 107M, 133, 141, 145, 175, or 961 and alight at either Bus Stop 07379 (Before Kallang Ave) or Bus Stop 07371 (After Kallang Ave). Both stops are within walking distance of CHIJMES.
By MRT: If you’re taking the East-West Line, board the train and get off at Lavender MRT Station (EW11). Once you arrive, head to Exit B and walk towards Victoria Street.
For those on the Downtown Line, alight at Bendemeer MRT Station (DT23). Use Exit B, then make your way towards Victoria Street.
By Taxi: Book a Grab, Gojek, or Ryde and set your destination to CHIJMES. The designated drop-off point is along Victoria Street, near the main entrance.
By Private Car: If you’re driving, set your GPS to 30 Victoria Street, Singapore 187996. Parking is available at CHIJMES itself or at nearby car parks such as Capitol Piazza and Raffles City Shopping Centre. Rats vary depending on the time and day.

CHIJMES has come a long way from its days as a convent and school, but it hasn’t lost its old-world charm. The Gothic and neoclassical mix gives it a distinct character, making it as much about history as it does about dining.
As one of the country’s oldest buildings, it still stands as a testament to its past—grand Doric columns, an elegant timber-vaulted ceiling, and stained-glass windows that catch the light beautifully.
The formal chapel, now CHIJMES Hall, still looks every bit the part, making it a popular venue for weddings (and a great spot for photos, even if you’re just passing through).
I wandered in one evening, and the courtyard was buzzing—live music in one corner as groups laughed over drinks. With all the cafes, restaurants, and bars placed within the historic space. It’s pretty easy to see why people stick around long after dinner.

A visit to CHIJMES already sets the tone for exploring Singapore’s rich past, but if you really want to dig into the city’s history and art, two landmarks nearby take it up a notch.
The National Gallery Singapore and the National Museum of Singapore stand as two of the city’s most important cultural spaces, each telling a different story of the nation’s evolution.
The National Gallery Singapore sits in what used to be the Supreme Court and City Hall, and the grandeur doesn’t stop at the facade.
Inside, you’ll find the largest collection of modern Southeast Asian art, with pieces that feel like time capsules—some bold and rebellious, others quietly reflective.

Lei Garden sticks to what it does best—classic Cantonese dishes, done right, every time. It’s where regulars know exactly what they’re getting, and that consistency is what has kept its reputation strong over the years.
The roast pork is non-negotiable, the crispy skin, perfectly seasoned layers, and just the right amount of fat.
I also recommend their double-boiled soups, even if they do take some time, the payoff is worth it—rich, comforting, and packed with flavor while keeping the ingredients fresh.
Dim sum here is just as impressive, with dumplings and pastries that show attention to detail in both taste and texture.
I noticed that the restaurant keeps things refined without being too formal, making it great for business meals, family gatherings, or anyone looking for a taste of tradition.
