A Guide to Burgis Street in Singapore Where Fashion, Food, and Bargains Collide

Bugis Street is where shopping will be very chaotic in the best possible way. Rows of shops spill over with budget-friendly fashion, trendy accessories, and souvenirs you’ll convince yourself you need.

It’s easy to lose track of time here, weaving through narrow aisles, hopping from one stall to the next, and testing your bargaining skills with vendors who have seen it all.

And let’s not forget the food. Somewhere between the racks of clothes and walls of phone cases, you’ll find stalls serving fresh fruit juices, bubble tea, and crispy street snacks that make the hunt even more rewarding.

Here, one visit is never enough—there’s always another shop to browse, another deal to grab, and another snack to try. So if you’re ready to trade air-conditioned malls for some old-school street shopping fun, grab some cash and dive right in.

Where is Bugis Street?

Bugis Street is in the central part of Singapore. It is bordered by Victoria Street to the west, Rochor Road to the north, Queen Street to the east, and North Bridge Road to the south.

How to Get to Bugis Street

By Bus: Several bus routes make stops close to Bugis Street, so it’s easy to reach by commuting. Look for buses 7, 12, 63, 80, 175, and 197, which stop along Victoria Street and Rochor Road—both just a short walk from the shopping area.

By MRT: The most convenient way to get to Bugis Street is via Bugis MRT Station (EW2/DT14) on the East-West and Downtown Lines. Once you exit the station, the market is just across the road.

By Taxi: Let your driver know the destination is Bugis Street market, or just remind them to drop you off along Victoria Street or Rochor Road.

By Private Car: If you’re driving, use Bugis Junction or Bugis+ as your parking location. Spaces fill up quickly, especially during weekends, so plan ahead.

Recoil always makes sure that style meets a good deal. Known for its oversized tees, sharp-looking suit sets, and comfortable cotton shirts, this spot has been a favorite for shoppers who want trendy but affordable pieces.

Their holiday sales bring in quite the crowd, with fresh designs rolling out every year—plenty of couple outfits too, if you’re into that.

The sizing leans on the bigger side, so for a more fitted look, I suggest going a size down.

The store is always buzzing, especially during peak shopping seasons. Get ready for the customers since good deals rarely come without a little competition.

Time seems to slip away when you’re in Paco Funworld. You get caught in one game and all of a sudden an hour’s passed!

With rows of claw machines, rhythm games, and ticket redemption machines, there’s always something grabbing your attention. The variety is huge so you can feel free to test out your skills or just have fun collecting tickets.

Tokens here are more affordable when bought in bulk, which makes it so much easier to stretch out the fun.

And right outside the arcade, I noticed that there was extra space with more games set up—perfect for drawing in curious passersby or squeezing in one last round before really heading out.

Board game enthusiasts will find an extensive selection to rent, and if you’ve got a favorite, you can bring your own for a small fee! And don’t worry, prices are reasonable here, with hourly rates for different types of games.

Drinks are available, but outside food isn’t allowed, so fueling up beforehand is a good idea.

Locked in a room with nothing but your wits and cryptic clues—sounds challenging, right? That’s exactly what happened when I tried Xcape Singapore. I went in expecting simple puzzles, but within minutes, I was second-guessing everything.

The rooms here don’t throw random locks at you. Each one is designed to make you feel like you’re inside a real story, and some even have live actors who know exactly when to show up and freak you out!

The puzzles are well-structured and difficult but never unfair, and their equipment is kept up to date to ensure the best thrilling experience to keep you on your toes.

When you need something warm and ridiculously affordable, you head over to Chanko Oden.

There’s something comforting about picking out skewers of fish cakes, konjac, and prawns, and then watching them soak in a light dashi broth that’s both rich and refreshing. The first sip of the soup? Like a warm hug, honestly.

Each skewer costs just $2, but there’s a catch—you need to pick at least three. That’s not exactly a problem when there are over 30 options to choose from.

Customers I spoke to recommended Chanko’s $1 matcha soft serve, so I thought “We all owe ourselves a bit of a sweet treat every now and then.” It’s definitely creamy, with the right amount of bitterness, and served in a crisp cone.

It’s easy to miss this place if you’re not looking for it. Supreme’s entrance is small, with their staircase taking you underground.

Before it starts feeling a bit eerie, you’ll find yourself in a basement eatery that feels like it hasn’t changed since the 90s.

Uniquely enough, the owners are a former Taiwanese basketball player and his wife who keep their establishment very minimal with crispy pork chop, soft rice, and cabbage soup.

The pickled vegetables also add a nice contrast to refresh your palette. And so does the chili that’s made to be more tangy than hot.

Get ready to get served some portions so massive that you might need backup even just to finish your plate. Monster Curry is known for their generous offerings with curry being thick and rich.

You can test out your bravery by jumping all the way up to Super 50, an extremely high spice level. Just note that this comes with a warning for good reason.

The menu covers all the classics such as crispy katsu and tempura, but the biggest pull here is the ability to customize.

You get to pick your heat level, from mild to mind-blowing, and for those who like to test their limits, there’s always the next challenge.

Hotel G has that urban vibe with a central location that makes exploration the easiest activity. It’s a quick walk to Bugis and Dhoby Ghaut MRT stations, which means shopping, museums, and food are all within reach.

Rooms are small but have everything you need, like USB ports, a rain shower, and METIS bath amenities. There are water dispensers on every floor too but it could be a hit-or-miss depending on who you ask.

There’s also a shared kitchen and lounge area, though it doesn’t see much use.

You can dish it out at their in-house bistro named Ginett, where they serve up some grilled meats, cold cuts, and a solid wine list. If you’re worried about not sticking to your diet, you can access the hotel gym which has a vintage box gym aesthetic.

If you’re getting tired of hotels trying to stuff their rooms with furniture that can barely fit, I suggest you head to Village Hotel Bugis. It sits right near Kampong Glam and Bugis Junction so it’s surrounded by great food options.

Just to let you know, the hotel isn’t exactly the newest in town so you might hear facilities creaking every now and then.

Rooms here are most definitely larger than most in the city, equipped with air-conditioning, hot showers, and basic amenities.

A plus is their breakfast which offers vegetarian-friendly options. There’s even nearby hawker-style food where you can eat for under $15.

For a more luxurious experience, InterContinental Singapore carries a sense of history while delivering a comfortable stay in the middle of Bugis. Its Peranakan-inspired design brings character to the rooms, with intricate details that show the city’s heritage.

The beds are super soft and are accompanied by USB charging points and a Nespresso machine for some convenience. Although some areas, particularly the bathrooms, exhibit signs of age. Overall, the space feels well-maintained.

Of course, I have to mention the amazing staff. They seem to go the extra mile just to accommodate requests, whether it’s early check-ins or replacing a faulty sink in the middle of the night.
