5 Best Schools for Swimming Lessons in Singapore That Turn Beginners Into Experts

  • Qualified instructors - We reached out to each school and requested information on their coaches' certifications. We verified qualifications like the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) or the National Registry of Coaches (NROC).
  • Curriculum and teaching methodology - We looked for schools that offer a clear, coherent progression system and tailored their lessons to different age groups and skill levels.
  • Facilities and equipment - We visited several schools to inspect their pools for cleanliness, water quality, and the availability of necessary equipment like kickboards and floatation devices.
  • Safety protocols - We checked for lifeguards on duty, first aid availability, and the implementation of safety drills. Schools that followed stringent safety guidelines and had emergency protocols in place ranked higher on our list.
  • Class schedules and flexibility - We reviewed the class schedules to see if they offered a variety of times, including weekends and evenings.
  • Pricing and value for money - We compared pricing structures across various schools, considering factors like the duration of lessons, package deals, and any additional fees.

Growing up, I was more of a ‘cling-to-the-edge-and-hope-for-the-best’ kind of swimmer. My technique was a unique blend of frantic doggy paddle mixed with the elegance of a flailing octopus. Not exactly Olympic material.

The journey from there to here involved quite a few belly flops and, let’s be honest, swallowing enough pool water to personally test the effectiveness of the chlorine.

But all it took was the right instructor to transform me from a human buoy to someone who could actually do laps without initiating a rescue mission.

So, if you’re plotting to conquer the deep end or earn those swimming badges, then you’ve stumbled upon gold.

We’ve paddled through the depths of Singapore to bring you a list of the best swimming lessons where you can dive into your aquatic adventure. Let’s just say, by the end of it, you’ll be making waves. Ready to take the plunge?

SwimJourney offers private swimming lessons for all ages, from infants and toddlers to children and adults looking to improve their skills. They also offer special ladies-only swimming lessons, which many find to be an excellent option.

One great aspect of their program is the personal attention you’ll receive. Unlike group lessons, the private coaching here allows instructors to really focus on your strokes, helping you get better and faster.

Another big plus is the convenience—they come to you, anywhere on the island. Whether it’s your condo or private estate, you don’t need to worry about commuting.

One parent mentioned how this saved her so much time, allowing her to focus on other things while her daughter enjoyed the lessons.

The only downside might be the cost, as private lessons are usually more expensive than group ones. But many find the benefits well worth it.

Pros

  • Private swimming lessons for all ages
  • Personal attention
  • Ladies-only swimming lessons
  • Instructors travel to your location
  • Convenient for parents

Cons

  • Expensive private lessons

Penguin Swim School is all about helping kids become confident swimmers while learning essential water safety skills.

With its well-known national program, it’s recognized by schools and sports organizations, making it a solid choice if you want structured, effective swimming lessons.

Their classes are perfect for kids under 16, and they do a fantastic job of turning non-swimmers into confident ones. As your kids improve, they’ll work towards the SwimSafer 2.0 certification, including Bronze and higher levels.

The teachers are both engaging and thorough, ensuring each lesson is productive and fun.

One thing to keep in mind is that they focus more on younger swimmers, so they might not have as many options for adults. But for kids, it’s a wonderful place to start and grow as swimmers.

Pros

  • National water safety program
  • Trusted by schools and sports organizations
  • Designed for kids under 16
  • Prepares students for SwimSafer 2.0 certification
  • Engaging and thorough teachers

Cons

  • Focuses on younger swimmers

Punctual, friendly, and motivational

Additionally, Coach Rayner motivates them by offering rewards when they do well, which has been a great incentive and has really encouraged their progress. We highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dedicated and supportive swimming coach.”

For the older kids, the SwimTots program is perfect for ages 3 to 5, helping them build water confidence and safety. And if you’ve got older kids aged 5 and up, the Swim Star program is fantastic for honing techniques and building stamina.

Adults aren’t left out either! They offer private lessons with personalized plans to fit your needs. One student mentioned loving the Swim Stroke Correction program because it really helped her nail her technique.

They also do a great job with the SwimSafer framework, making sure everyone not only learns to swim but does so with certified water safety skills.

A downside, though, is that with multiple locations, instructor availability can sometimes vary.

Pros

  • Offers programs for all age groups
  • Customizable private lessons
  • Swim Stroke Correction program
  • Uses SwimSafer framework

Cons

  • Instructor availability varies by location

Tailored to individual progress
“I like that I can choose to send my child for class at any of the available class slot as coach MC teaches every child according to their learning ability and progress. And some of the classes are at the shallow pool which I started my child at as she was still a beginner. Now I have the option to let her attend the classes that are held at the adult pool and coach MC helped her become very confident in the water. Thank you coach! High recommend.”

Patient, friendly, and flexible
“I enjoy learning from Coach MC. He is very patient, friendly, kind and always bring his smile to every lesson. I like that his classes are flexible, he takes time to answer questions, and he diligently keeps track of his students’ progress. Most importantly, the kids love him! I’m looking forward to learning more advanced swimming skills under him.”

Swim Master provides kids’ swimming lessons focused on essential skills and water safety. They offer programs for all ages and skill levels, allowing kids to progress from beginner to advanced stages.

A highlight is the SwimSafer program, where kids can earn proficiency levels from Bronze to Gold and track their progress.

The classes are packed with activities to help kids get comfortable in the water and are conveniently scheduled on weekday evenings and weekends.

Swim Master also boasts experienced coaches certified by reputable organizations like NROC, the Swimming Teachers’ Association, Aust Swim, and SSI.

We love how their coaches keep their certifications up-to-date and are also trained in CPR and First Aid, which is definitely reassuring for parents.

The only downside is that their group classes can be quite large, with up to 10 students. If you feel your child needs more one-on-one attention, you might want to look into their private lessons.

Pros

  • Focuses on skills and water safety
  • Programs for all ages
  • Classes filled with engaging activities
  • Convenient scheduling
  • Experienced coaches
  • Certified coaches

Cons

  • Less personalized attention in group classes

Personalized guidance
“As an adult learner with busy schedule, I was initially hesitant to start swimming lessons. However, my experience with coach Alvin Ho and Coach Kingston has been amazing from the very beginning. Their patience, kindness, and friendly created an stress-free environment, allowing me to learn at my own pace. In just two short months, I’ve made incredible progress. I can now confidently swim breaststroke and am well on my way to mastering freestyle. What sets Coach Alvin and Coach Kingston apart is their dedication to understanding each student’s unique needs and goals. They provide personalized guidance, constructive feedback, and unwavering encouragement. If you’re a resident of Bukit Panjang or the west area looking to learn how to swim, I highly recommend Coach Alvin Ho and Coach Kingston. Their expertise, passion, and supportive teaching style make them the perfect coaches for learners of all ages and skill levels.”

The instructors are patient, professional, and really know how to engage with young learners. They focus not only on technique but also on building confidence in the water, which has been so important for my kids. The facility is clean and well-organized, and the staff is always welcoming. Little Splashes Aquatics is a top pick for baby and toddler swimming classes. They make water safety fun and foster a positive relationship with the water early on.

For older kids just starting to swim, their Kids Beginner Swimming lessons are ideal. These sessions help children build basic skills and confidence in the water.

You’ll also love their warm-water indoor pool. No matter what the weather is like outside, the pool is always cozy and perfect for little ones.

The only downside could be that class sizes are kept small due to the indoor space, which might mean you have to wait a bit longer to get a spot for your child.

  • Highly qualified instructors

Encouraging and confidence-boosting
“I recently enrolled my 4-year-old son in swimming lessons at Little Splashes Balestier, and I couldn’t be happier with our experience so far. Coach Jayden is fantastic with the kids, providing patient and encouraging instruction that has really boosted my son’s confidence in the water. The facility itself is top-notch, with heated pools that ensure a comfortable swimming environment, and it’s impeccably clean, which is a huge relief for this germ-conscious mom! I’m thrilled to see my son making such great progress and look forward to continuing his swimming journey at Little Splashes Balestier. Highly recommend it to other parents!”

Engaging lessons and wonderful facilities
“Have been sending my child to Little Splashes since 10 mths and it has really helped with water confidence. The lessons are fun and the teachers are engaging. Shout out to Teachers Jayden, Ray and Gavin. My child has no issues with them and enjoyed the classes. We have also shifted to this Balestier BT Centre outlet as the previous outlet at YCK has closed permanently. We love the new place and facilities, as well and all the friendly staff at the counter who we chat with weekly. Would recommend!”
