Top 8 Satay Restaurants in Singapore That Will Ignite Your Love for Skewers

Satay has always been on my radar as one of Singapore’s must-try street foods. The aroma of smoky, grilled skewers wafting through hawker centers always intrigued me, and I finally decided to track down the best stalls to see what all the fuss was about.

My adventure began as I was drawn by the sticks grilling over charcoal and the irresistible sight of golden-brown meat. The sound of sizzling skewers filled the air as I watched vendors expertly fan the flames.

The first bite had incredibly juicy, charred meat paired with peanut sauce. Each stick was more than just a snack, it was a taste of the rich food culture you can only find here in Singapore.

Over the next few days, I explored more stalls, all serving their own rendition of satay. Skewers quickly became one of my favorite ways to connect with the local food community—it turns any evening into a food frenzy.

So, if you’re ready to sink your teeth into these tasty cuts, here’s where to go when your cravings start to call.

Must-have: Satay Set E

Makansutra Gluttons Bay pulled me in during a relaxed evening by the waterfront, where the lively chatter of diners and the smell of charcoal-grilled dishes filled the air. Amid the rows of stalls, I found myself drawn to Syifa’ Satay.

Their satay was soft and smoky, with a good blend of spices. Dipped into the creamy peanut sauce and served with fresh cucumber slices and soft ketupat rice cakes, every bite was satisfying. You can’t help but order more—it’s actually that good.

Their Satay Sets make choosing so easy. Set A starts with 10 sticks of your choice of chicken, beef, or mutton, while the options grow as you move up the alphabet. By the time you reach Satay Set E, prawns are added to the mix, bringing a delightful variety.

While satay is what the people come here for, Syifa’ also serves other dishes like lontong and mee siam, giving diners a chance to explore a variety of flavors.

Pro Tip:
Head to Makansutra Gluttons Bay early in the evening to beat the crowds and secure a table more easily.

Must-have:

Address: Chomp Chomp Food Center, #01-34, 20 Kensington Park Road

Hours: Daily – 5:30PM to 9PM

Must-have: Chicken Satay

Chomp Chomp Satay’s stall consisted of the aroma of grilled meat sizzling over glowing charcoal along with the sight of skewers being turned over the flames.

The Chicken Satay was marinated in a honey glaze that gave it a slightly sweet flavor. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a side of Pork and Mutton Satay to the mix, each coming with its own filling taste.

But what brought everything together was the peanut sauce. It was thick and had a surprising tang from the addition of pineapple puree. This little twist added a refreshing balance to the savory and nutty flavors, making it hard not to keep dipping.

Pro Tip:
Visit Chomp Chomp Satay on a weekday evening to skip the crowds.

Must-have: Mutton Satay Bundle

Haron Satay has been a staple at East Coast Park since the 1970s, attracting satay lovers with its time-honored recipes. Founded by the late Haron Abu Bakar, this stall takes pride in delivering skewers that reflect the rich traditions of Malay grilling.

The menu features Chicken, Mutton, and Beef Satay, each marinated in various spices. When grilled, the skewers develop a caramelized glaze and a subtle char.

For those dining with a group or simply craving more, Haron Satay offers bundle deals of 30 sticks, perfect for sharing. If you’re new to the stall, I recommend the Mutton Satay Bundle, though you’ll want to arrive hungry—it’s a filling choice.

For smaller appetites, you can also order the satay by the stick. Whichever option you choose, don’t miss the peanut sauce. Made fresh every day, it should always accompany the meat, cucumbers, onions, and even ketupat rice cakes.

Pro Tip:
If you’re craving a full meal, start with the Chicken Satay followed by the Beef and Mutton.

Must-have: Set A

I wasn’t able to stop myself at Satay 7 & 8, a stall in Lau Pa Sat that always seems to have a steady stream of customers.

They offered up Chicken Satay, marinated in a spice mix that gave it a gentle sweetness. While the Mutton Satay gave a slightly bolder flavor that was complemented by the peanut sauce. Speaking of the sauce, it was rich and subtly spicy!

I’d recommend Set A for people looking for a bit of variety. It comes with 10 pieces of chicken and 10 pieces of beef, and you can even mix and match with mutton for a more diverse spread.

Skewers are served with cucumber slices, red onions, and ketupat rice cakes, bringing in a refreshing contrast to the grilled meats.

The place had a character that made eating more enjoyable—people chatting, the aroma of satay wafting through the street, and the simple joy of sharing delicious food with others.

Pro Tip:
Try the prawn skewers for a treat that’s easy to eat and pairs perfectly with the sauce.

Must-have: Pork Satay

Shi Xiang Satay at Chinatown Complex Food Center is a delicious testament to tradition, with roots stretching back to a humble pushcart on Sago Lane in the 1950s. On my visit, it was clear this family-run stall has been perfecting satay for generations.

Every stick here is a product of time and care. The meat is marinated for 24 hours in a carefully crafted mix of spices, a process that ensures the infusion of flavor.

I started with their Chicken Satay which was incredibly tender and delectable. The Mutton came next with a richness that’s hard to ignore. And then the Pork Satay, with its leaner cuts, feels like a modernized classic for those looking for something a bit lighter.

The peanut sauce takes satay to an even notch higher. Shi Xiang’s version includes a touch of pineapple puree, adding a fruity sweetness that cuts through the grilled meat—it’s the kind of sauce you’ll want to finish, even after the last skewer.

Pro Tip:
Pair your satay with craft beer from nearby stalls in Chinatown Complex for a filling meal.

6.  Kwong Satay

Hours:

  • Wednesday – Closed
  • Saturday and Sunday – 4PM to 10:30PM

Must-have: Pork Belly Satay

Kwong Satay in Geylang is a treasure trove of satay goodness that had me hooked from the first bite. Established in the 1960s, this stall carries decades of tradition, and it shows in every skewer they serve.

The Pork Belly Satay was my absolute favorite. The slices, thin and interlaced with layers of fat and meat, practically melted on my tongue—rich and indulgent without feeling overwhelming.

Pair that with Kwong’s signature peanut sauce, and you’ve got a combination that’s hard to forget. The sauce comes with its pineapple puree and hint of belachan, giving it a tangy and slightly spiced lift.

I also tasted the Mutton Satay, which had a deeper color than the others, almost hinting at its bolder flavor. While the meat was on the tougher side, it brought a more robust taste that some might enjoy.

Pro Tip:
Try their pandan-wrapped ketupat. These fragrant rice cakes have a soft yet firm texture that complements the satay and sauce perfectly.

Must-have: Pork Satay

Yong Seng Satay at Bukit Timah Food Centre has a special place in my heart, not just for its history but for the flavors it brings to life. With over seven decades of tradition, this family-run stall feels like a piece of Singapore’s culinary story on a skewer.

I tried out their Pork Satay, which quickly won me over. The meat was soft, with just the right amount of fat that melted in my mouth. The light char from the grill added a touch of smokiness.

Their Chicken Satay was a close second. Slightly richer with a hint of sweetness, they had a balance that kept me reaching for more.

Their Mutton Satay on the other hand had a deeper, heartier flavor, though the texture was a bit firmer—ideal for those who like a little chew in their meat.

What tied it all together was their peanut sauce, it had a bit of spice that worked well with each skewer. It was the perfect companion to the well-marinated meats, focusing on the flavors without overpowering them.

Pro Tip:
Visit Yong Seng Satay during mid-afternoon hours when the queues are shorter, giving you more time to enjoy your meal.
